Love. As If You Have Never Been Hurt Before
Just watched the last episode of the korean drama "My Lovely Sam-Soon" this evening.

My sister loves this show and I would watch with her sometimes. This drama's really quite enjoyable even though I only saw half the episodes. The main character, Sam-soon has many faults but she is lovable. Her face is quite pretty but she is on the plump side. She is a little outrageous, brutally frank both in speech and action, comes from an simple home, has been dumped by boyfriends and owes her young boss a 50 million won debt. And at 30, she is almost an "old maid". After many ups and downs, she does find love at the end of the show but we don't know if they got married.

This drama's a hit in Korea last year and made American-Korean model Daniel Henney into a Korean heartthrob (He's GORGEOUS! by the way). It presents a startling contrast to the Cinderella-like female leads of other Korean soap dramas. I admire Sam Soon's courage in her quest for love, the way she makes choices to love or not to love even if it brings her heartache and the way she does not conform in order to find love.

In today's last episode, she read off a rather inspiring poem in an ad along the street, which sums up, in part, her attitude on life and love:

Dance like no one's watching,
Love like you've never been hurt,
Sing like nobody's listening
Work like you don't need money,
Live like it's the last day of your life.
- Alfred D. Suja -

To love like you have never been hurt. That's easy to say but difficult to do. How many of us do not carry with us painful hurts, memories and scars from previous loves/relationships? Even with the passing of time, when the wounds heal, do they just merge and fade into our subconsciousness and become part of us? Can we truly say that these experiences have not changed us in the least bit and will not affect our future actions?

Do you remember the time when you loved like you have never been hurt?

Only two so far which I like: My Lovely Sam Soon and Full House. These two dramas are more real, a bit more like the Jap dramas. And bits and pieces of Da Chang Jin. I only watched them because my sis was watching. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Oh, I cannot stand Winter Sonata.
